Excessive Sweating Hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating is medically referred to as hyperhidrosis, a condition characterised by sweating beyond what is necessary to regulate body temperature. This condition can significantly impact a patient, causing discomfort, social anxiety, and embarrassment. Most people don’t realise how common hyperhidrosis actually is, affecting nearly 2 million people in the UK alone.

Although the underlying cause is relatively unknown, there is a strong genetic correlation. It is also a common side effect of certain medical conditions, such as an overactive thyroid and specific prescription medications. What we do know is excessive sweating is caused by an overactive gland within the affected area, therefore regulating the gland back to normality is necessary to reduce sweat production.

At Sula Clinic we treat excessive sweating with a popular muscle relaxing drug, a minimally invasive and extremely effective treatment that works by blocking the nerve signals responsible for activating sweat glands. Patients experience significant relief from excessive sweating, enhancing their quality of life and confidence.

FAQs

  • Botulinum toxin is highly effective in reducing excessive sweating, with clinical studies showing a reduction in sweat production by 50-80%.

Patients usually start to notice a reduction in sweating within a few days of the injections, with full effects typically seen within 2-3 weeks.

The results can last from 4-12 months, depending on the individual and the area treated. After this period, the treatment should be repeated as necessary. Regular, repeat treatment has also shown longer lasting results.

  • The procedure is minimally invasive with no significant downtime. The treatment can be performed in a clinic setting in under an hour.

    • Pain & discomfort: mild pain or discomfort at the injection site, usually temporary.
